Students are enrolled in this school in accordance with The Queensland Department of Education and Training placement/enrolment procedures.
Before a child can enrol at a special school, they must meet the following criteria:
- The person has a disability as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA).
- The person has a severe disability which includes an Intellectual Disability.
- The person is unlikely to attain the levels of development which the person is capable unless the person receives special education.
- The person’s educational program is best delivered in a special school taking into account the appropriateness of this placement for the individual concerned.
Prospective parents are advised to talk to the Guidance Officer of their child’s present school to commence the process. The Guidance Officer will then make contact with our school to arrange a visit. The opportunity to enrol at Western Suburbs Special School is available all year round and is not restricted to students from a specific geographical area. However, parents will generally need to reside in our catchment to receive transport assistance.
We welcome any queries you may have, and encourage you to contact us if you are interested in hearing more about our wonderful school.
