Student’s literacy and numeracy skills in the Junior Secondary years are developed through a balanced literacy approach and a hands on approach in numeracy.

Communication and literacy are very important across all learning areas and are supported through the balanced literacy approach. This program ensures that students have modelling of reading, writing, listening and viewing to support their language development and communication with others. Teachers provide consistent modelling of language using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) such as Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD) or Proloquo2Go.

The curriculum is delivered through explicit teaching, real life contexts and the use of Curriculum to Classroom Students with Disability (SWD) resources. It is then adapted to the needs of each student. Classroom programs continue to focus on developing students’ communication, their physical, social and emotional learning and academic learning.
