While the functional skills of this subject are easily identified it also offers a wealth of learning opportunities with the students learning to identify and use the genre of procedural texts. 

The students will get the opportunity to use their mathematical knowledge of measurement in a functional process when measuring their ingredients for each recipe. 

Safety in the kitchen will be carefully examined and reinforced consistently across the semester, as well as how they must clean a kitchen to maintain a hygienic area at all times. 

At the culmination of each lesson the students will be encouraged to try the food they have made and converse appropriately with their peers.
