English

It is essential that students continue to develop their literacy skills across the senior years. This subject will embed the explicit teaching of reading, writing, listening and speaking to support students to become confident communicators who can participate within all aspects of the community they access.
By supporting students to reach their full potential in this learning area they will better equipped for a positive transition to post school activities, further training or the workplace.

Mathematics

There are many mathematical concepts which are required for students to function in their community. Reading of time is necessary if they are to cook food, catch public transport, arrive at work on time as well as attend appointments when required.  Measurement of mass, length, volume and capacity are used for both living and work skills and students need to be supported to develop their understanding of the days, weeks and months of the year.

Money is one aspect of mathematics which must be carefully taught to our students.  For those who experience difficulty using money effectively we can support them with the Clarke Road Money Program which utilises the “Next dollar concept”.
