The Junior school program caters for students in Prep to Year 2. There are currently ten Junior classes at Western Suburbs State Special School.
Our focus is on early literacy, numeracy and communication skills and students are exposed to a rich communication environment. Familiar routines and transitions are developed and embedded in everyday learning to promote the development of the independence skills required to be active learners.
Starting Strong
Our vision is to strengthen protective factors in the early years to help improve student outcomes and make a positive impact on our student’s lives. We believe students who attend school regularly, are engaged in the classroom and progress in their learning are more likely to have better outcomes across their schooling journey.
Our school priorities from prep to Year 2 are:
• knowing each child and student’s needs to support positive and confident transitions into and through school
• achievement in English and mathematics
• maximising learning days.
