The middle school program caters for students in years 3 to 6. There are currently eight middle school classes at Western Suburbs State Special School.
Teachers in the middle school provide challenging, differentiated, fun and exciting learning experiences for all students across a variety of contexts. Our vision is to provide a program that supports the development of independence, communication, and personal and social capabilities required to be an active member of the community.
Building on Foundations
Our vision is to consolidate strong foundations in middle school for lifelong learning and nurturing confidence of students to thrive in their future schooling years. Early learning experiences shape young minds and inspire them to become lifelong learners. Building, through middle school, on the foundational literacy and numeracy skills established in junior school is critical for learning success.
Our school priorities in middle school Years 3 to 6 are:
• knowing each student’s needs through middle school as they prepare to transition to junior secondary school
• achievement in English and mathematics
• maximising learning days
